History

The Department was opened in 2002 in order to cater to the needs of the students who are interested in Bodo language subject. Initially it was a single-faculty department and Dr. Dipali Kherkatary is the founder teacher who managed the MIL and elective classes. Later, two teachers were appointed on non-sanctioned and regular basis. Now, with the strength of three faculty members the department manages MIL, FML (Com.), Elective and Major in undergraduate level and MIL & Advance Bodo in Higher Secondary level. The department is financed from the college fund as the posts of the teachers are yet to be sanctioned by the state government. All the teachers possess the full UGC qualifications. Since its inception the department has been involving with the Bodo Literary society which was formed in 1991 and working with active co-operation with the society for the literary development of the language. The Bodo Literary society has completed its 25 years in the month of September, 2015 and celebrated the glorious Silver Jubilee successfully through various programmes. The most remarkable success of the celebration lies on the trilingual souvenir titled Rwnswndri brought out by reception committee of the Silver Jubilee Celebration which includes write-ups from a number of renowned scholars from different parts of Assam.

Facilities

The Department has one laptop with internet facilities and a small departmental library. The Department organizes academic activities for the benefits of the students. The teachers of the Department offer informal counselling to students from time to time.

Activities

The Department plays the leading role in the activities of Bodo Literary Society. This Society organizes various programmes for the academic and cultural development of the students. It also publishes a magazine called 'Airakhi' containing write-ups from the students.
